John Deere 4066R and Frontier SB1174 - Post Blizzard Clean-up
I have a 317 that i bought about 15 years ago. It had been repowered with an Onan p218g before i bought it. I assume it has electronic ignition but have never had to work on it. It has the bendix type starter which i did have to replace but don’t know if it bolted to block or pan. Just wish it had power steering.
Deck is uneven
Does the 318 have a metal or plastic hood?
318’s have fiberglass hoods. Most Deere garden tractors (emphasis on garden tractors) until the early 1990’s had fiber glass hoods.
beautiful tractor!
This fawken result is NOT THE RESULT I NEED
Is this a P218 engine or the older pre '87 engine? I have an '87 with the P218. Only vehicle I've ever owned that i don't change the oil in myself lol. My local J.D dealer had a mechanic that was in his 70's and loved to get his hands on those older tractors. He kept it running flawlessly for the past 9yrs I've owned it. He retired this spring. Tractor still working A-1, so was just going to do oil myself. Thanks.
Just watched this video. I own 2-318s & love them both plus a 314. I don’t have to much problems with them as their built like the big deeres. One thing though,Deere did offer a front end loader for the 318. Wish I had too. Thanks
I’ve seen those modified with a small airbag for down pressure. I think it was an airbag for an air ride seat but I’m not positive. The guy just had it rigged up with a little 12v harbor freight compressor. He had to put a shock absorber on it because it would bounce so bad that he couldn’t use it.
from someone who uses stand on commercial mowers, this is sooo slowww but I still want an x390 for our vacation home.
How do I receive your response to my questions?
I have a 318 that runs forward but not backwards. One check valve does not move freely so I’ve ordered a new one to see if that is the issue of NO REVERSE? Hope so as JD folks suggest that it may be the Transaxle ? Please advise or respond if you still maintain this UA-cam video series. Thanks
I’m still here. While you are waiting for your new check valve you could remove the stuck check valve and see if you can pry it up with a brass tip or even a screw driver if you don’t mind messing it up.
You think that tractor is green - you see me green with envy!!!! Beautiful machine - I am very glad for you my friend. Art from Ohio
I’m very happy to have it!
I would bypass that P. O. S.
I had no idea these were actually built by Yanmar prior to John Deere manufacturing the next generation 55 series. Very neat little machine.
They sure were, makes parts a little easier to find with some detective work.
Always wanted a 50 series compact, very jealous.
That deck is HUGE!
Very nice, I’m kinda fond of the 55 series tractors. It’ll be a peach for many more years in your hands!!
I had an 855 many years ago, it was a lot of fun. I’d love to have another or 955 to play with.
Very nice size for a small acreage utility tractor. 👍
John Deere 750s are awesome! Quiet excited to see more videos on this
I have an 850, great little tractor for doing what I use it for. No problem running a 5 ft brush hog or 5 foot disc. Looking for a tiller now.
you gt that mid pto fixed, and you will enjoy mowing with that much more than one of the x series lawn tractors.. I just can not imagine it will take much to get that pto to working
I will look into as I have time. Not a hugely pressing issue at the moment. My guess is it will be this winter before I really do much with it other than drive around the yard.
I have a steep slope but I think I have to go up and down instead of horizontally. I think I need to use a push mower?
You forgot the lever on the right rear which allows the machine to be moved safely when it’s not running. Great job itemizing all of the major components. Lots of great information. Thank you.
Thanks!
I found, when things were rusted in, that I could save time by using an acetylene torch to cut the balls out of both bearings. It made teardown much faster.
I believe the washers keep the pulley from wandering on the shaft. A bushing/spacer is typically used. Flanges can stretch and since one of their functions is to squeeze the outer race which holds it in place, they may need replaced. The bearing may spin in the flanges if they are loose. Flanges are usually reasonably priced. Flanges hold outer race to frame, eccentric locking collars hold inner race to shaft. This assures that the spinning is in the bearing where it should be and that things stay in place. Old combines and potato harvesters used many bearings, so I have seen my share.
Is a 400 fender pan the same as the 300 series?
The 400 fender pan is a little wider and has some differences (cut out for the diff lock)
What is the belt part number, size or length?
Do you have the belt length, part number or size?
I’ve seen 455’s with less than a 1000 hrs going for $8500 with just a mower and $13k-$14k with attachments…
You saying $1200 a piece for them? Or 1200 for all of them? Kinda confusing im assuming 1200/piece?
I have a question will your mower pick up the deck at a Idle
Does the 1445 have the ability to turn as tight as a “zero-turn” mower?
i don't have a lock out vavle on my 318 john Deere
This will sound crazy. I got a 1445 base 2wd 1435 hours on itfor free. They ran gas through it and it sat for about 8 years. I redid the entire fuel system, new tires, new seat, all new fluids, and 3 new spindles. Maybe have $2k in it and I love cutting with this thing.
Id rebuild that Onan them US made Vanguards are not the best engines.
Though I am a Cub Cadet owner and fan, I have always wanted a X748. I love the way they look and wish they never changed it. That design was my childhood seeing 2, either X748s or X595s mowing at my school when I was in grade school. I got into a lot of trouble for not doing my work while they were out working😂.
I put that in my Chevy.
Gotta ask, bc I’m kinda wanting one… Why do you turn the deck off at the end of every turn?
What are you doing? Why are you pushing it so hard when it's bogging down, clearly.
Missing the toolbox plus your missing rear wheel weights inside and out just a thought 👨🌾
Would this be the case on both cylinders? As in the machine won't run at all?
Steeve John Deere
Having trouble setting the hieght of 3ph,. I seen u installing it. But you didn't get into seeting hiegjt and depth
How much do these go for now?
Are you sewed in fescue?
Hello Are they're any size difference's between the 40 and 45 series loader? Is it just the mountings that are different. The reason i ask is because i have a 455 tractor and i cant find a 40 loader here in the uk but i have found a 45 loader. I was thinking about modifying the brackets to fit my tractor?
I have a John Deere 140 with the original mowing deck and I can’t figure out how to level the front of the deck.
Got a f935 gas Onan with 76" swept deck for free. One of the worst designed machine ever. Once fixed with non-John Deere parts. These mowers can be great, mine works fantastic. I wouldn't pay scap price for this mower. Ps whoever designed that so called pto system should've been fired
What is the spec on the tension arm stop plate on deck?
This must have been the most satisfying pass to mow in the history of John Deere mowers
